Go Cart Derby Slides and Reflection

I found it easy finding bits an bobs that Dad wasn't using.
I found it challenging finding the best non slip rope to use for steering.
I am proud of how my go cart turned out and went down the hill.
It was fun doing jobs for Dad after his hard work helping me build.
Patrica my go cart went down the hill at medium speed.
I believe that Gisborne Intermediate are going to enjoy test driving there carts.

Today I worked on sisomo and creating a DLO about our school camp in Wellington
I learned that if your text boxes are too big, then your words will cut off.
I really enjoyed adding pictures to tell a story.
I found it hard to find the right transition times
I found it easy to find good music.
Next time I would make my writing smaller to prevent words being cut out, so the quality of my video is better.
This blog post shows I am a Stepping Up blogger.

Camp Reflection

Sunday Bus Ride

At about 7:45am the huge bus wheels were rolling and heading for Wellington. It was a slow and smooth 7 - 8 hour bus ride so I didnt feel sick at all. The first place we stopped off at was Waiora, to have a quick toilet stop. Next stop was Napier at the Sound Shell to have lunch. Then Dannevirke for another pit stop and from there straight to Wellington, Upper Hutt. Soon we arrived at Silver Stream Retreat. The weather was much like Matawai. My favourite part of the bus ride was playing board games and watching movies. I didn't like the way it took so long to get to our destination. Overall he bus ride was better than most bus rides I've taken

Monday Parliament, Cable cars and Te papa

After a challenging run and breakfast we hopped on the bus and headed to Wellington City. The traffic got busier and busier as we got closer and closer to the city. We soon arrived on the Parliament steps. The buildings were built very strongly. We had a tour of the Executive Wing or also known as the Beehive, the Parliament House, and the Library. My favourite part of Parliament was the Debating Chamber, because I have seen it on tv but was curious to see it in real life. I didn't enjoy the security checks because I was scared something would go off. I would love to be an Mp on the Ministers side so I could get my own office.

Next we walked with our groups to the Cable car terminal. I enjoyed going through all of the tunnels because the cable car went dark. I didn't like when we had to hop off because I want to keep driving. When we were on, we drove through a tunnel with decorative lights glowing in the dark. We hopped off and found a sunny spot eat lunch at the botanical gardens. I enjoyed getting a great picture of a city view.

After lunch we headed to Te Papa with our groups. My favourite part was the Gallipoli expedition. The soldiers in there looked so life like. The art display was amazing. Some of the pieces of art were measured in beautiful frames. I enjoyed the Gallipoli expedition because all of the soldiers had story to tell. I didn't enjoy when we were not allowed to touch some displays.

Tuesday Weta Workshop and Wellington Zoo
We were loaded on the bus and headed to Weta Workshop Studios. As we walked in, the walls looked like they were made of stone. Then we had a tour and I was blown away that all of the creations were hand made. There were guns and swords that could have been held by famous actors. The moto Weta Workshop lives by is “Be creative and make cool stuff”. They had all kinds of statues based on movies like Lord Of The Rings. My favourite craft was a sheep that's jaw moved off the movie “Black Sheep”. I didn't enjoy the tiger head piece, because it didn't work. I would love to work at Weta Workshop.

After lunch at a park we headed for the Zoo. After a safety briefing about not putting your hands in the Lions enclosure, we split into groups of three or more and wandered around. My favourite was the Giraffes. They were happy walking around and posing for pictures. At 2:30 we met at the Otter enclosure to have an education tour. The tour was based on habitat and behaviour. We saw the Gibbons. I learnt that the Gibbons learn a song from their parents and take over their parts when they are older. Next was the spider Monkeys they hang of trees with their tails. Then the Capuchin monkeys I learnt that they rub onion on themselves to keep away the insects. I loved the Zoo because we were free to look at any animals we wanted. I didn't enjoy hearing the Lemurs singing, they sounded like they were strangling each other. It turns out that how Lemurs react when they get a fright. One day I want to work at the Zoo.

Reflection For Zealandia Writing

I was lost... lost in the bushes, of Zealandia. I was too busy admiring the colours and textures of the mighty Tuatara. The rule was to stick to your group and go at a pace that every one could cope with. Everyone was obeying the rule until all of the attention was on Bob. Bob was always an attention seeker, but I am not sure this one was for the ladies. Bob fell down a bank and possibly broke his back. Once they rushed him to hospital I was left behind. I was too busy panicking. Then suddenly the thought came to me, why not make the most of this once in a lifetime experience of being lost in Zealandia.

So with that thought, I whistle as a signal for giant eagles to appear in front of me, lined up infront of me waiting for their orders. I jump on one's back as we fly over the stunning landscapes of Zealandia. After hours of flying over the beautiful veiws of  Zealandia, we land smoothly.  The sun began to go down, my stomach groaned. I soon come across an egg. It was small and had brown speckles all over. I crack it hoping that it has no chick inside. My hands were sweaty, and the egg was not cracking. After ages, attempting to crack the egg, ker splat! The egg looked delicious and I couldn't help but eat it. It may have been raw but I was starving.

The sky darkened to a miserable grey colour, it was about to rain. Few stars appear faintly. I looked for somewhere to sleep, but the bird enclosure was much too noisy for my liking. I was tired and wasn't bothered to find the perfect place to sleep. So I choose the reptile enclosure. It was a far from perfect place to sleep, in fact some of the reptiles made a strange groaning noise, which reminded me of my brother snoring. But I soon dozed off beside my eagles, using their wings as a blanket.

The next day I wake up to a stray rooster roaming around. Pecking at my face while squawking in my ear. Skinks in my hair and Tuatara on my back. This is truly not a glampers paradise I say to myself. I walk around to find I am back on track or am I… Zealandia is 225 hectares, to find my way around here would be a miracle. Especially with dyslexia, I couldn't read any signs of where to go. We were supposed to be following the green track, which had many exits to the front office. You may be thinking there is 500 staff members, why didn't I ask one for help. Well, I have always listened to my mother and never talk to a strangers. Stranger danger I was told. I soon thought about my last appointment at the optometrist, 2 weeks ago. They told me I was due back in 2 weeks for a very urgent appointment. They told me I could be going blind.

I had a nauseous scared feeling that I would not make it home. As the sun went down, the day began to break. I was on an empty stomach and had tired eyes. I held my eagles close, snuggled under their wings and drifted of. I knew I probably wouldn't make it home, I would be lost in Zealandia for life. I would have hoped that my group, had done a head count and realised that Bob wasn't the only one in their group. I had enjoyed my trip to Zealandia even if I wouldn't be leaving it.

Sophia Carmichael

We have been learning about Wellington places because we are going on camp there. My learning is about Zealandia. I studied this place, and made a report. I enjoyed studying Zealandia and then writing an imginative piece of writing to go with it. My story was a made up what I think Zealandia will be like. I enjoyed this because it was different to other writing. It was easy to write because we had lots of facts from the report about our place in Wellington.

Maths Reflection

For the past few weeks our maths learning has been on symmetry.
We had to create a reflective or rotational piece of art.
Reflective symmetry is when a shape has an axis and is like a mirror,
equal on both sides. Rotational symmetry is when the shape is rotated any
degree. This was a fun activity because it was like art.
We added colour to make them stand out. My design just came to me when I was playing around with shapes. I enjoyed doing this because I learnt lots along the way.

Imagine A Night

I enjoyed doing the Imagine A Night writing because it linked in with our wellighton writing we did earlier. The way it was read was like poetry. It was a descriptive peice of writing and I enjoyed it. The great thing about it was that you could add some more words to make it your own. I enjoyed this because it was a lot different to other pieces of writing. I like how you could create it into a story, the way you sequence it, it turns into a story. This writing represented some of the places we are going on our Wellington camp. I would love to do this activity again.

Imagine A Night ...

Lost in the bushes of Zealandia, too busy admiring the mighty Tuatara.

Flying over stunning landscapes of Zealandia, on giant egales, beneath the stars.

The thick ivery spiraled up trees, turns in to sly green snakes, spitting vemon.

When the sky darkens to a miserable grey colour, it was about to rain, you had to go bush.

When skinks and tuatara crawl all over you and when you wake up, their in your hair.

You have a nausouse feeling inside, on an empty stomache, homesick and couldnt sleep.

Lonely, cold and hungry. Lost in a 225 hectare wildlife santuary. Knowing you wouldn’t make it home.
